One Arm Point and Lombadina

This morning we left the caravan and drove out to the end of Cape Leveque Rd.  After passing a wild Donkey and its baby we arrived at One Arm Point, its Aboriginal name is Ardyaloon.   There we went to Ardyaloon Hatchery which had lots of sea shells and fish on display.  We first went to the Barramundi tank where I held some food over the tank and SNAP!  The Barramundi jumped out of the water and snatched the food in a split second.  I also felt its lips.  After I had my go, Kade had his go and one of the other Barramundis jumped and nipped Kade’s hand as well as his fish.

Another awesome fish was the Monkey Fish.  It had made itself a hole made of stacked rocks and would never come out of it.  To eat, it sinks down into its hole and makes it's head look like a rock and then as a small fish swims by it would instantly pounce up and grab it and then sink back into its hole.  I also found the Archer Fish quite interesting and funny.  If you put a piece of small fish on the end of a branch that’s sticking out of the water, these fish will gulp some water and then give a strong accurate spit to knock it down and eat it.  After we left there, we drove past a beach and looked over at some islands in the Timor Sea. Then we went to another Aboriginal village called Lombadina and had a look at the beautiful beach there too.  Then we got some petrol and went back to the caravan, we also passed the same wild Donkey and its baby again.  As soon as the sun started to go down we heard the donkeys making their funny noises.

  1. Hi Pumpkin it sounds very exciting to hear all of the old dreamtime stories. Must have felt weird to have the fish nibbling on your finger. Did Kade try and catch the Barramundi? The donkeys look very familiar don't you think? Love you P.P.

  2. Hi Mylee, what an amazing holiday you are having. I just loved Broome and Cape Leveque when we visited there quite a few years ago now. We also saw the staircase to the moon and the camels at sunset. I am so jealous that you have been to Karijini NP and seen all the beautiful gorges - I so want to go there one day. It is freezing cold in Melbourne at the moment so enjoy that lovely weather. Mrs Humby
