Windjana Gorge

Today we did a walk through Windjana Gorge and saw a new animal.  We started the walk along the towering cliffs, we looked over to the river and saw a FRESHWATER CROCODILE!  On the other side of the river sunbaking, was our first crocodile, its size was between 1 and a half to 2 meters.  We took lots of photos and then kept walking only to find more than 30 crocodiles in the one spot!  Most of the crocodiles were sunbaking or floating in the water but some were smacking their jaws together.  As we walked even further we saw a lot more big crocodiles and a few were on our side.  We also saw some big Boab Trees as well growing next to the track and growing on the side and tops of the cliffs.  After we we did some more staring at the crocks (as well as naming the first one we spotted Walter) we walked back to the van for the rest of the morning.

Back at the caravan I watched the busy Great Bower Birds build their amazing nest.  The Great Bower Birds nests aren't regular, they are like in an arc shape (so with a roof) made with with twigs and it is on the ground.  The ground of their nests are made of anything the birds have collected that is White, Grey or shiny.  Most of those things are stones, shells, animal bones, bottle caps and tin bits and pieces.  Later as the sun set we all went back to the gorge in the dark.  We waited for a little bit and when it was dark we watched the crocodiles slide into the water to catch the bats that were now flying around.  It was cool seeing everything again in the dark, and if you shined the torch light at the crocodiles their eyes would look like bright red lights.
