Freo Prison

The start of the day was a little scary.  After we caught a bus into Fremantle, we went to the Fremantle Jail. It was interesting, spooky, scary and disgusting, walking around the jail.  It was spooky because prisoners and convicts had been in the prison around only 20 years ago, it was scary because the lady taking us was very good at describing what the prisoners had done and she showed us where the prisoners were hanged if they were really really bad but that was way too scary for me so when it was time to leave the room I literally ran out. I thought it was disgusting because to do their toilet business they had to use a bucket and if you shared a room with someone they had to share the bucket with them too and even worse they had to eat next to it. It was interesting to know the timetable of the prisoners and about the 1988 riot, where the prisoners set a part of the prison on fire and held the guards hostage because some people didn't like the way they were being treated.

The prison was closed down in 1991 and all the people left inside were transferred to another prison called Casuarina where some of them are still alive now. After we gained our freedom we went in search for a place to eat and we found a sunny little bench and were accompanied by seagulls. a little walk later we took a quick peak at a paleo restaurant before catching a bus back to the car park to drive back to the caravan.

Back at the caravan we took a 10 minute walk to Coogee Beach which we could access from where we are staying ,but the colour of the water was the same as back home so now that we have to some pretty beaches it wasn't very impressive.
