Kings Park / Mum's Birthday

Happy Birthday!! Today is mum’s special birthday and Kade, Dad and I organised a special breakfast which included bacon, avocado and beetroot in a wrap, with some juice and a purple card that Kade wrote and a colourful picture that Kade, Dad and I contributed to.

Today, on the way to Kings Park, which is supposed to be like the Botanical Gardens but in Perth, we drove through two towns. The first one we drove through was called Cottesloe.  We stopped at Cottesloe Beach which was nice and quiet and then moved on to the next town called Scarborough which was busier, and at the beach we walked down a little jetty and balanced across the jagged rocks to the end and back.

When we arrived at Kings Park I realised it wasn't like the botanical gardens at all…it was better! The garden was placed high up on a hill so it overlooked the city and water, we could see the little ferry that we had been on two days ago floating back and forth, collecting passengers on either side. First we went on a guided tour around the botanical part and we learned that Kings Park was the largest inner city park in the world - it is 1000 acres, one acre bigger than the one in America!  Along the walk we also learnt about the Aboriginals and what plants they made things from, we walked on a canopy walk and could see far to the mountains in the distance behind the water and city and behind us was lots of nature. There was also a large Boab tree that had been transplanted from the top of WA to Kings Park.  It took 6 days to transport the tree to Perth and everyone donated their time and equipment for free.  Our guide showed me a little plant that had flowers in the shape of little birds, she gave me one to keep.  We had lunch on the beautiful green grass and then took some photos of the view before driving around the rest of the park. We also gave mum a special love heart cake and sang her ‘Happy Birthday”.  Then we drove back home and on the way we stopped at the butchers to buy some meat for the next few night because we are moving to a new destination tomorrow.

As we are leaving the city area, I’m not sure if we will have internet access but I will try my best to keep you updated.
