Sandy Lake Farm, Gingin

Yesterday we arrived at Sandy Lake Farm in Gin Gin, which is a beautiful farm with sheep, bulls, rams, chickens, guinea fowl and cows. A little while after we arrived we went and drove around the little town of Gin Gin and stopped at a little park with a water wheel, which was to represent the old one that used to carry the flour to the mill.  Then, before bed, we played with a foam model airplane which Kade and I flew to each other from the top of the hill and when it got dark, Kade and I played spotlight amongst the trees.

Today we slept in a bit and I woke up to the bright sunshine streaming through the canvas at the end of my bed. We had breakfast, played totem tennis and then the one of the owners of the farm, Reg, asked Kade and I if we wanted to move the cattle (the cows and bulls) into another paddock. We said ‘yes’ and followed him into a paddock where he just called ‘come on’ clapped his hands and whistled and they all came running at us until they were right behind us, then we opened a gate and they all ran in because they knew what to do.  It was very cool to see that happen as there was 18 cows, 2 bulls and 11 calfs.

We drove into Yanchep National Park and saw a sign for a Koala boardwalk, we thought it was a good start to walk on a boardwalk so off we went and when I looked up in the trees I saw how the boardwalk got its name, there was Koala’s! At the end of the boardwalk we saw about 7 Koalas overall. Each of the Koalas had not yet woken up, the only sign of movement was one chewing and another reaching up its arm. We went down to look at the lake which was all gooeyd up, we chose a bush walk to do and on the way spotted 3 kangaroos. Then we drove past a few beaches on the way to Guilderton where we had a look at the mouth of the Moore River, sharing the same sandbar as the Indian Ocean.  There was a very funny pelican in the river which was giving himself a bath before doing lots of shimmies.

On the way back to Peaches (which is the name we decided to call our caravan) we stopped at a place where they make honey, we bought some Red gum honey and a little bit of a honeycomb which are both really yum. When got back, we got to feed the sheep and rams, it was messy, fun and a great experience to do. Later that night Reg took us for for a night walk and showed us some interesting things in the dark, such as the sheep eyes glowing orange, green and white like a robot and spiders which if you shined a light on them, shined like diamonds. We also picked 2 lemonades which is a fruit crossed between a mandarin and an orange and to eat it you have to peel it, and  picked some gooseberries which were orange and you had to pop open a little lantern flower to find them, they taste like a really sweet apple.
